THE AFGHAN STITCH
The famous Afghan Stitch, most commonly known as "Tunisian Crochet".
This type of crochet is made with the special "Afghan Hook", since the piece
is not turned at the end of a row, the right side is always facing.
The instructions and illustrations on my Crochet Knit Page explains the
Basic Afghan Stitch which forms a solid texture of squares. Often cross-stitch is embroidered on after to create beautiful
designs.
This is a very versatile stitch, very slow at times, but the end results are absolutey stunning.
The
Afghan Stitch has tight stitches that are well designed for winter stuff eg. blankets and outerwears garments that will keep
the cold out.
The Afghan Stitch has two steps in forming stitches. The first step is known as forward where the loops
are gathered on the hook working from right to left. The second step is known as return where the loops are connected to each
other and dropped off the hook. The return is worked from left to right.
If you are a beginner and is attempting to
try the Afghan Stitch, your best bet is to try with one color before starting the change of color, because this can be very
cumbersome for a beginner if you are not sure of what you are doing.

This is a picture of "The Afghan Hook" also
called "The Swivel Hook", it holds more stitches than the regular afghan hook, and it is so much more easier to work
with.
This is a completed project using "The Afghan Stitch" and then cross-stitching
the design on top. This is the "Baby Bear Afghan.
